Standing Strong In Difficult Times

With more and more people out of work these days, it truly is difficult to keep a positive outlook. External stresses along with internal conflicts encourage struggling individuals to “self medicate” in an attempt to relieve the pain. A colleague of mine gave me the best definition I ever heard of addiction, and it goes something like this…Addiction is the voluntary altering of one’s brain chemistry by introducing drugs and/or alcohol in an attempt to self-regulate one’s mood. If I’m a downer type low energy depressed individual, I might be tempted to perk things up with a few stimulants. If I’m a wired up kind of guy, who’s just looking to calm things down, a few shots of Jack Daniels might work just fine.
Be in-tune to your feelings. Instead of reaching out to man-made toxins, try reaching out to God for help. He can be an anchor in any storm. Try praying. There’s nothing special to say, just something like…”here we go again Lord…help give me some strength and guidance because I feel life crushing in again”…and as always…obey God and leave the consequences to him…stay well and God Bless…
