Addiction Support Groups-Any Good?

Hey…hope your doing good…Ed comes up to me the other day and tells me how he relapsed after being “sober” for 10 years…It’s like what!….Ten years…what happened?…he was like….”oh, lost my job, fighting with the girl, and I stopped going to meetings”
If I had a buck for every time somebody told me they relapsed, and at the same time they stopped going to meetings and/or some form of support group, I’d have a new suit. Support is good. It allows you to vent some of your “pain” with others in the group, in a “Non-Judgmental” way. You get some ideas of what’s worked for others who are struggling, and it gives you someone to bounce things off of.
Remember. It might be late at night and there is nobody around to sort of “bounce things off of” Now what? Especially if your only an “arms length” away from picking up. Well there is always somebody around…and that is God. 24-7 God is there to help. Focus on him. Say a quick prayer…something like…”dear God, I need some help here, give me some strength to ward off this temptation, and resist the demons that are trying to bring me down”
Christ said…”the thief comes to kill and destroy you”…he was meaning Satan…and yes there is an evil in this world that wants to bring you and your family down….it’s a battle to resist these temptations….once you realize you are under attack….then it makes it easier to turn for help…
Get a bible…an easy to read bible….(New Living Version etc)….and start reading…it will be your support group/friend especially when nobody is around….buy a small one and keep it in your pocket….when tempted…grab it tight and say…”Ok, I got the power of God in my hand now, and I ain’t going down no more”…
Hey…the weathers breaking….get out and get some fresh air….stay well…Love
