The Weekend Binge

I have heard it so many times….”Hey, I don’t have a problem….I only get wasted on the weekends”  Be careful if that sounds like you talking.  There are many people out there that believe they only abuse/misuse on the weekends..then they don’t really have a problem. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Suppose it wasn’t even a weekend. Let’s say for example that on every Wednesday night I would hit the sports bar to watch the evenings game and I would get hammered.  Then say for example I got bagged one Wednesday night for drunk driving. OK, I still have a license, but I continue to go out JUST on Wednesday night and get hammered. To make matters worse, my partner and family are giving me a hard time about this ritual, and ask me to stop because it’s stressing them. I say….” come on, it’s only one night a week, leave me alone”  Out I go, and get hammered again. This time, while coming home, I wrap the car around a telephone pole, causing an injury to my friend in the car. Motor vehicles now pulls my license for a year.  You think I have a “one” day habit/addiction?

Don’t be fooled by that “only weekend etc.,” mentality. Consistently getting hammered or wasted in some form of pattern, is a sign of a problem. I tell individuals that question me on this to stop drinking/smoking/drugging for a few weeks, just to see where they are at.  Most of them don’t make it through the week.

Hey, this isn’t to “judge” anybody. The purpose of this is to enlighten you to the possibility there might be a problem with drugs or alcohol etc… and if there is, then get help now.  Get into a good support program.  Seek individual counseling. Confide in a close (sober) friend that you might have a problem and need some adv ice.  Turn to God and ask for help. From what I have seen, it really is a struggle to beat some of these addictions without the help of God. There really is an “evil” in this world, whose ultimate goal is to bring you down. Don’t get drawn into the drama and chaos of life.  Get a bible and start to read it. Pray and meditate on God’s word. Read Proverbs and Psalms and you will really get some good advice and support for getting through this life in a healthy and productive way.

We are always praying for our readers here at Christian Help For Addiction Online. There are many today that are struggling with these new forms of addiction such as internet addiction and pornography addiction via the web. Be careful. Those things can creep up on you so quickly, and before you know it you are hooked. Shut down the computer and walk out! Run out if you have to, but just don’t be drawn in……Until next time….stay well and God Bless

Difficult Times Build Character?

That’s a common statement we hear when things seem to fall apart. I don’t know if these tough times really build character as much as if they show if we have any character at all. I know so many people who are out of work, that’s it’s incredible they can still pay the bills. Truly a test of character.

The one thing that we really have to be cautious with is “self-medicating”, when we are under stress. It’s so easy to reach for a bottle, some pain pills, cocaine of even more. We attempt to alter our moods by altering our brain chemistry. This can be extremely dangerous.

This is going to be a difficult life at times. Even Christ said that “in this world you will have trials and tribulations” Reading between the lines I’m really glad that he said “this” world, meaning there is more to come. But anyway, we have to learn how to “navigate” this world in a healthy and sober way. Addictions are at extreme levels, with even Heroin coming back strong.

If you are looking for some “mood alteration” try Christ. Read the bible. Read the New Testament and focus on his teachings. He Will give you some guidance on what to do when the going gets tough. What Christ did was pray. It had a calming effect and led him to many resolutions. Give it a try…you just might find some peace in this crazy world.

Until we talk again….stay well….Vic

Ed came up to me over the weekend and told me how Celia, his friend of 6 years finally took off…I say finally mainly because Ed was a “hard drinker”, and when he got drunk, he was one of those guys that got a “little nasty”..

I was with him one night in a club, and he’s belting down the beers pretty heavy…..for some reason, he thought this guy was looking at Celia….Paranoia I guess….well you could probably figure out the rest….after hitting him in the face…the cops came and locked up Eddy….

Be careful when you start putting TOXINS in your body, and Yea…taken in excess even alcohol is a TOXIN….sometimes our bodies act in strange way….(see crack,,,cocaine…etc)….Take care of yourself….the weather is getting nice…if you feel the urge to drink of drug…put your sneaker on and start walking…If you are medically fit…then Exercise and burn up that adrenaline and other stress hormones.

And PRAY….close your eyes and just say “give me some strength here Lord…I got the urge to self medicate…help get me out of this dilemma”   he will come through…it might be a battle…but if you focus on Christ…he will come through…

Hey…enjoy the warmer weather…and from all of us here at Christian Help For Addiction Online we hope and pray that your life becomes a happy one, free from addiction struggles.

Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine is one of those drugs that often get overlooked. It isn’t because people are not aware of its problems; there are just so many hard drugs on the market that this one does not always get the attention that it probably deserves. Cocaine is highly addictive and very destructive. The most glaring problem to me though is the fact that 14.7% of all Americans who are older than 12 years of age have tried cocaine at least one time in their life. This means that nearly 15% of the people you probably work with have tried it. When you go to your child’s school functions like a basketball or football game, of those in the stands, 15% have tried cocaine at least once. Some of those may be existing addicts as well.

The number drastically increases when you look at adults between the age of 24 and 36. In fact, it is 25% of adults that fit that age range that has tried Cocaine. So the number goes exceptionally higher when you start talking about people who probably have younger children. To know that these are the types of people that our children are potentially associating with is something that makes me scared for what my children might encounter as they are going to school or go to spend the night with even those families that I know well.

So what does the bible say about cocaine addiction? Obviously, the word cocaine did not exist back when the bible was written. However, we can look at the addiction problems that were occurring during this time, and probably the most relative one would be the fact that many people were addicted to wine during the time Jesus walked the earth. Galatians 5:19-21 says this, “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Essentially, drug addiction such as alcoholism could be compared to sexual immorality, envy, and even sorcery. Paul thought that all of these grouped together had one thing in common. Drug addiction is clearly sinful.

Paul also wrote in Ephesians this, ““All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything.” What is Paul getting at here? In my opinion, Paul is saying that there are probably many things out there that sit on the border of good and bad. It is a clear vision for me, but even if it isn’t for you, is what you are doing helpful in furthering your relationship with God? If not, should you be doing it? This is the biggest problem with drug addiction is that those who are seriously addicted will think about nothing else other than where to get their next high. The unfortunate part is that the drugs take the place in our mind of where God should be.
